Bathroom Design Ideas – Looking for Inspiration

Over the past few weeks, I have found myself spending more time than I care to admit, browsing Pinterest, blogs and other websites looking for bathroom design ideas.

Our shower has been leaking and it is time to take action and get it fixed before we end up with even more water appearing on the kitchen ceiling. We have to wait until June before we can get someone in to help with the plumbing and tiling and this time we want to make sure it is done properly. We are pretty happy to tackle DIY projects but decided that with water and electrics it is better to stay safe and get a professional in.

We won’t be doing a full refit but will take the opportunity to do some bathroom decorating. I am excited that after 16 years in our house we will also get the ceiling re-plastered, finally getting rid of the last horrible Artex ceiling we inherited. On the walls, we have tongue and groove panelling which is definitely ready for a new coat of paint and we will also be keeping our traditional style bathroom suite. I’d like to fill the room with lovely toiletries, candles and overall make bathing in the room a more luxurious experience.

This isn’t quite the same but our suite looks something like this. Plain white with traditional style taps, although our bath is double ended with taps in the middle.

Storage is a consideration, especially now I would like to make the room more restful. I love the cabinet in the picture above, found via . I am looking around for something similar either new or as a project. We have a cabinet in our garage that currently houses my husband’s motorbike cleaning kit and I am eyeing it up to see whether it can be brought back to life with some filler and a lick of paint.

I love the look of this room although we did inherit an old iron bath, no where near as stylish as this and found that the water went cold really quickly! There is something to be said for modern materials that old the heat.

On Pinterest, I found the images of these gorgeous lotions and potions. They are from the blog, . It is Swedish but translate does a good job and 15 minutes or so later, I was still browsing around at all the lovely things. If you like interiors you should check it out but it should also come with a time thief warning.

The brown bottles, coupled with typographic labels are very appealing. So much so, I looked up Aesop hand-wash – lovely, expensive and I’ll be looking in TK Maxx for a cheaper alternative! Until recently, I didn’t know that TK Maxx stocked beauty products and after finding the counter in our local branch, I check it out whenever we visit.

I’m thinking about adding some plants in a corner too. There is something special about flowers or houseplants in a room and with a steamy bathroom atmosphere a few plants should thrive. Well I hope they do and are worth the upkeep. Time will tell if it looks as good as this image from . This is another site that is like a time wharp but brimming with ideas and make-overs – I think I have just popped on for a few minutes then realise I have been much longer than I thought.

After looking around at different bathroom design ideas, I have decided that what I’d like this time round is a little bit of laid back luxe. I’m hoping to achieve a modern country look with a few Farrow and Ball neutrals. I am sure Elephants Breath or Skimming Stone paint will be in there somewhere as they are pretty much in every other room. I like plain, neutral walls and find these colours much softer in Winter than bright white. And I still haven’t grown tired of the colours, finding them very easy to live with.

What would your ideal bathroom look like?

These are some lovely ideas – I like the idea of having a basket on the windowsill for little bits, I think I’ll have to look into doing that. x
