On the beachfront of Sirata Beach Resort in St. Pete Beach Florida I lounge in my cabana and watch the children chasing the birds through the sand.

It’s a shame that I’m working/writing instead of just relaxing the day away with a mango daiquiri in hand.

I pause to take a break, listening to the sound of the waves crash against the shore, the infectious giggles of the children, and the call of the gulls as they fly away.

is a perfect spot on St. Pete Beach close to the cities of Clearwater, Tampa, and St. Petersburg.

The wind offers a welcome breeze. I barely realise that it’s 28 degrees right now; all I know is that this is a welcome change from the cold, bitter winter of my home in Toronto .

Peaceful and relaxed; that’s how I’m feeling.

Our Room – Suite 1850 at Sirata Beach Resort

With views of the water from the double balcony, our recently renovated oversized king bed suite is beautiful. Bright, and welcoming with distressed wood plank-looking floors, vibrant yellow and blue pops of colour shining brightly against the sun-bleached neutral tones.

Complete with a double pull out sofa bed, and kitchenette with bar fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, glassware and cutlery.

Here’s a short walk video through of our room including a view of the gorgeous beach.

A pet peeve that I always have is when they don’t provide enough hooks in the bathroom to hang your towel to dry. Although there is a retractable laundry line in the bathtub, some towel hooks would be a great addition.

We spent our days on the beach relaxing in luxury loungers under umbrellas.

Beach rentals can be charged direct to your room. Fees during our stay were as follows per day:

TIP: Leave your towel on your chair if you need to leave the beach so that the guys know you will be returning. If you prefer not to rent, pack a chair and sunshade and bring it to the beach with you.

During our stay, we dined at Rum Runners Bar and Grille beachside for lunch and breakfast. Service was excellent, and we quite enjoyed the Chicken Quesadillas.

For dinner, we ate indoors at Sirata Beach Resorts’ Compass Grille. With dark wood and a romantic atmosphere, we enjoyed a quiet meal of scallops and roasted duck.

One fabulous touch is that nightly, between 6 pm to 7 pm next to the pool the resort offers unlimited complimentary beer, wine and rum punch to salute the sunset. Live music was excellent and featured a different musician each night. The sound of the band did echo through the resort, but the noise quieted down promptly at 9 pm. A few nights we sat up on our balcony listening to the sound of the music mixed with the sound of the surf. Very relaxing.

Other onsite amenities at the resort include:

- Scheduled children’s activities

Arranged through and the resort our boat picked us up directly on the beachfront of the resort for a lovely sail through the gulf. Enroute to Shell Island we saw quite a few dolphins swimming in the ocean.

Lucky for us, we packed a boxed lunch so that we could enjoy a picnic on the island while other passengers spent their time searching for shells.

Shell Island is a protected island accessible only by water. Quiet and secluded save for a few kayakers, fellow sailors, and birds.

In the midst of a significant facelift, during our stay, one of the buildings was completely closed, and we could hear the sound of construction on a new pool, children’s splash pad and Harry’s Bar. Visit the Sirata Beach Resort website to see photos of the transformation to come.

Hi Lori! Thanks so much for your comment.

For Shell Island, we did our excursion with Suncoast Watersports directly on the beach at the resort. They have a booth with a yellow roof where you can make your arrangements and the boat came right there to pick us up so it was super convenient.

Re: other excursions in the area. You’ll need a car , but you might be interested in the Replay Amusement Museum with pinball machines from the 50s or the James Museum of the American West.

What an informative, fun article. We stayed at the Sirata in June 2017 as a surprise gift for our son’s 18th birthday. We returned in August 2017 for a birthday adventure for my brother in law w/ special needs. Our son loves the area so much that he wants to move there. Long story short, I’m taking him back there shortly for his 19th b-day. Dad opted to stay home as he is not much of a beach kind of guy. On our last trips we pretty much stayed near the Sirata and walked to different restaurants. We rented a car for a day and went to Clearwater and St John’s Pass.

On this upcoming trip we want to go to Shell Island and St Petersburg. Do you have recommendations for such excursions? I’ve seen a pkg for Shell Island at $50 per person that departs from Dolphin landing so we’d have to pay for transportation to get there and back too. I also found a site that just takes you over for about $20 pp round trip. I want him to have fun but don’t want to overspend like a ‘tourist’ doing so. Any recommendations?

We also want to spend some time in St Petersbugh but I’m not sure WHAT we should see. My kid let is not interested in Dali but does like history. Do you have any suggestions for this area?

Thank you in advance if you do use your valuable time to reply. We leave on June 5th.
