Handcrafted Farmhouse Sofa Table
Last week on the blog, I shared our new and happened to mentioned that we also built a matching sofa table. Since we’ve moved into our new home over the Thanksgiving holiday, I’ve been really taking my time on putting the house together. I like to keep it real for y’all. So, I’m not ashamed to say that I’m still unpacking in March. Real life is definitely that messy bookcase in the background.
But, first off, I just want to say thank you to everyone who follows along on this crazy journey of ours. While we may not be perfect , I really hope that we inspire you to embrace the mess and make it your message. We really want to help you be intentional creating your own spaces to gather and retreat. And while those spaces may not be society’s definition of perfect, it’s about loving the space you’re in. It’s perfect because it’s yours and you make it serve you and your loved ones well.
Meanwhile, there is so much that I am wanting to do this Spring and Summer as our schedules start to wind down a little bit more. But, I am beyond excited to share with you on the blog today one of the newest additions to our living room: a handcrafted farmhouse sofa table!
When we were in the process of building this piece, I had so many people ask why I decided to have Rob build a sofa table instead of end tables. The answer was quite simple: end tables wouldn’t fit in our living room! With our living room in the shape of a smaller/skinnier rectangle, end tables would have limited the size of furniture that we’d be able to fit in the space. We already have to replace our furniture eventually with pieces that fit the layout of our space better. So, we wanted to build a piece that would work along the backside of any sofa that we picked. Sofa tables are a great option for tighter spaces and pulling the room together. Meanwhile, they can support lighting and other storage options that make them the perfect alternative to end tables.
When I think of classic farmhouse, I think of barns and barn doors. I have a huge love for barn doors and an even bigger love for neutrals throughout the home. We really wanted that X detail to be a detail that flowed throughout our home. Right now you’ll see it with our coffee table, sofa table, dining room table, and some new nightstands and headboard that Rob is currently working on for our master suite. Like the farmhouse coffee table, I really wanted to design this piece to be one that could grow with us through the years. I also wanted to design them to match so that they would pull the entire space together as a set.
Like the farmhouse coffee table, I have been anxiously awaiting to share this with y’all on the blog till after our big launch. Rob also built this up for me off of a simple drawing, and I think it turned out absolutely amazing! I just know you are going to love it as much as I do! The best part? If you love it and you’re local, we’ll make one for you! Drop us a line on our , and let’s chat!
BONUS: My Tip on How-To Hide Cords
There’s just something about loose cords everywhere that itches my OCD side. Not to mention, with open shelving they can really make an otherwise clean and perfect space look disorganized and messy. When it comes to hiding cords with open shelving, it can be tricky. But, I promise you’ll be racing to the store after reading this quick and easy trick on hiding those pesky cords.
You read that right. I use those little clear command hooks to hide the cords on pieces like this farmhouse sofa table. They’re easy to use, move around, and stick right on the piece of furniture without damaging it. The only trick is to make sure that your cords are long enough to run alongside the piece of furniture to whichever outlet you’re wanting to plug it in to. In this case, I just needed the cords to run down the outer legs, and I just let it run along the floor to the surge protector. This surge protector is then plugged into an outlet with a decorative cord cover – making it look so much nicer than it would have otherwise. So next time you’re annoyed with hiding cords, try this little trick!
I really hope that y’all loved this handcrafted farmhouse sofa table as much as I did. It is the perfect compliment piece to go with our farmhouse coffee table. I can’t get enough of how it pulls the whole living room together without taking up as much space.
