Kids Coat Hooks – Make Them Now

This idea for these kids coat hooks evolved over time. I got one idea in one place and another part in another. Then I found something at the craft store that would better than my original idea. Finally I got to my end product.

Spray paint – I used black, grey, and line green. It is multi-purpose paint.

– In my opinion one of the better glues

I looked high and low for the right size plastic animals for these hooks. I live in a small town so you learn to wait or do without. I finally found them at Kmart for a couple of dollars each. I have to admit I have gotten more savvy about buying things on line these days.

When I asked my husband to cut the back ends off of these guys I BET you heard his eyes roll from where you live as I explained it. I KNOW he thinks I am crazy sometimes. I didn’t want to cut off there heads and make them look like tiny plastic trophies. So the coat would not slide off of it. I wanted there to be enough of the animal.

Here is where the evolution came about. First, I wanted them to go on one piece of wood. Figuring I would be able to find a scrape piece somewhere around the house. Then, on one of my many trips to Jo-Ann’s, I found these round wooden plaques and knew immediately that was how I wanted them.

Painting them all one color was always part of my plan. I just couldn’t decide on what colors. If I had been making them for my son it would have been easy. However, I am making them for my grandson and his mother has changed her mind several times what color his room will be.

On my last trip to see them I got a better feeling of the colors. They also happen to match the LEGO table I made for him while I was there So my plan is to send the GS these kids coat hooks, maybe his intial and pictures so his mom can make a little gallery wall in his room.

I have been struggling with what kind of hook or hangers to put on the back. Then I said to myself “stupid” your favorite thing in the world to hang things, Command Strips. Using them I know they would be snug to the wall and hold a coat or two.

So there you have it a quick, easy and FUN way to hang you kids coats. I sure hope you like them.

Thanks. I am so happy with the way they turned out.

What a fun idea! I will have to try and find some little plastic dogs, to make hooks for the dogs leashes!!

This is super fun! I love that you can go pick your kids favorite animals or whatever you find in sale and use your whatever color you want! Pinning for later!

They are so easy to adjust to boy or girl or family. I am so glad they turned out the way I wanted them to. Thanks for the pin and comment.

How did you adhere the hollow animal bodies onto the wooden plaque? Thank you.

I used the craft adhesive E600. . I would have used my hot glue gun but ran out of glue. LOL I hope that helped. Thanks. T
