Needle Felted European Robin

Tweet tweet! Our felted bird range is rapidly growing – we can’t help it! Today we wanted to share our newest little guy with you – our needle felted robin. He’s modeled on the European bird rather than our native robin, which makes for a smaller, more plump little creature – isn’t he cute?! And you can make him too, even if you have zero experience in needle felting! Our little trick is to use a foam egg as the base. We use our felting needle to add a layer of roving felt in the desired colors then add the other details once the body is finished. This method is very forgiving so it’s really good for beginners or anyone new to making and felting in particular.

All you will need to make this cute felted robin is a 3 inch foam egg, roving felt in cream, light brown and orange, matching light brown felt for his wings and tail feathers, floral stem wire for his feet, two glass beads for his eyes and a little black felt for his beak. You can download the pattern for the wings and tail feathers below. Using a felting needle on the foam egg will blunt it, so go for an inexpensive one for this project! It would also be handy to have a small pair of pliers and a low temperature glue gun to hand for assembling this little guy.

If you love our little needle felt robin as much as we do, take a look at the others in our range. We have a pair of , and a gorgeous – swoon! And if choose to give it a go, we would love to see your work. Share pics with us on , or using the hashtag #DIYDreamingWithLia and we will share our faves. See you there! ~Lia

Hi where can I get the bird beaks from please?

Needle Felted European Robin

Hi Victoria, the beak is made from a small piece of felt that’s rolled up and glued. It’s included in the PDF pattern.

I am new to felting and have just made the robin. I now want to make the wings and tail feathers. Am I right in thinking the only way to get the pattern download is to pay for membership.

Hi! Yes, the patterns and templates for most of our projects are available with a paid membership. You’re of course welcome to create your own version of wings and feathers if you prefer ????

Where can I buy the foam egg. Ty.

We usually use the Flora Craft brand, found at Michaels and JoAnns or online!

Needle Felted European Robin – Lia Griffith

My daughter wants to make this robin for a class diorama. Would you please inform us of what type of felting needle and glass bead you use. We live in Hawaii so will probably be ordering supplies on Amazon.

Merci pour ces explications. Mais je n’ai pas trouvé dans nos magasins les œufs en mousse ! Sur quels sites puis-je en trouver ?

I would look online! I’m not sure what’s available in France
