Paintings Gallery - Silent Voices

Developed from the “Fragment” series of paintings this image represents the first time Ian Murphy layered the calligraphy strips of canvas onto the surface of the image. The title “Silent Voices” has been used to evoke the memories of people who used to dwell in the abandoned villages that Ian Murphy seeks out for inspiration.

Take a look at the close up images and you will see the many intricate layers of Chinese calligraphy that are etched in the painted surface.

7 ideas I use in my sketchbook drawing when I am on location

Paintings Gallery - Silent Voices

I always stress the importance of my sketchbook to my creative practice - it is my constant companion whenever I travel, and it provides me the best solution to record the environment around me. I have always drawn in a sketchbook, its second nature to me, and it is one of the main things that students love to look through during my workshops. The downloadable booklet will give you an insight into the creative strategies I use when I draw in my books and hopefully it will provide you with a substantial aid to share with your students.

The booklet is on it’s way to your inbox. If you don’t receive anything in the next 15 minutes you should check your Spam folder.
