Story Baskets & Props

Reading books and story telling is an everyday activity in the Early Years classroom, and I often add props or characters to go with them. I’ve had a bit of a blog-break over the Easter holiday and am not actually back at school until Monday, but thought I’d share a few we’ve enjoyed – some are super simple, and others I’ve had to gather a few bits and pieces for. You may have seen some of them on my social media pages…

Such a simple story for the children to re-tell…

I was lucky enough to buy these characters cheaply from a private seller on eBay…

The children still love my Owl Baby story stones…

We’ve had another version of the Cinderella basket too…

Story Baskets & Props

Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs

I made these spoons a few years ago now, you might have seen them in …

All these books have been donated by parents and the children love them…

We have a few book/toy sets although I don’t have photos of them all. Here are a couple…

I bought this set of books years ago from one of the book men that leave books in the staffroom to purchase. Each book has a really short story with a finger puppet on the front. The children love making up little shows with the puppets and I am forever re-matching them back to the books. ????

Story Baskets & Props

Not stories, but I thought I’d share my songs & rhymes basket. I created these cards because I so often forget which songs we know – it also means the children can pick which one we sing/chant. Each card has a picture on the front and the rhyme/song on the back. I always print the web address of the clipart sites on the cards too, as copyright rules are strict and free-image sites often ask you to do this in the small print/terms and conditions…

I am going to do Term 1 in a Kindergarten in 2018

Do you have a favourite format for planning?

There are so many out there but I want to ensure the program is captivating for children, geared from their interests and promotes provocation!
